A tired rear terrace, revived into an attractive family garden.
We collaborated on this lovely project with our good friend Nick Burton, from Burton Hall Garden Design Garden Design. Nick and Duncan created a fantastic design, revamping this tired rear terrace into a useable and attractive family space, with areas for growing veg, seating, BBQs and planting.
We primarily used porcelain paving for the surfacing of this garden, with Dutch clay pavers as a secondary surface. This was effective in breaking up the space and adding interest. Nick created and installed the planting scheme, which has added beautiful colour and texture throughout, and we look forward to seeing it improve and mature over the coming years.
Four decisions that shaped the whole terrace.

Dutch Clay Pavers
A secondary run of Dutch clay pavers breaks up the porcelain and adds warmth and texture between the zones.

Porcelain Paved Terrace
A hard-wearing porcelain surface forms the main terrace, clean underfoot and easy to maintain through Edinburgh winters.

Raised beds for growing
Dedicated raised beds give the family space to grow vegetables alongside the seating and BBQ area.

Planting by Burton Hall
Nick Burton designed and installed the planting scheme, layering colour and texture that will mature over the coming years.
Mixed planting
Fifteen photographs, grouped.
The terrace, the planting, and the wider grounds, three short sequences rather than a single dump.
